First planting of 2008

dsc04040.jpg

Well, we planted our first fruits for the 2008 season. It’s also the first planting in our garden. We planted 3 grape vines. I set the poles in to run the wire for the vines, but won’t put the wire up until it’s needed. We have been waiting since last fall for spring to arrive. That’s when we started killing the grass, and putting fencing up. Once the grass was pretty much dead, I began tilling the ground. I have tilled it about 6-7 times now, and the ground is ready. We have wonderful soil here. No rocks, and it will grow anything if you water it. So we have just started planting for this season. Our garden is approx 1500 square ft, so we have lots of room to grow many things and we plan to. Since Jackie knows how to can, and we have family nearby, I’m sure nothing will go to waste.

Winter Quarter is over, and it looks like I got 2 A’s and an A-. I have almost a 2 week break before Spring Quarter starts up, so I will try to get most of the fruits and veggies that are ready to plant, planted.

Ugh! Time change

Well it’s the 9th of March, and last night was “Spring Forward”. I like fall. At least I get an extra hour of sleep. I got up at 7 to let the dogs out and had to take a photo of the morning sky. It was beautiful.

I am looking forward to spring. Warmer temps, longer days, and yard work. I have begun to prep the garden for spring planting. We haven’t quite decided what we are going to plant, but it will be a wide variety of veggies and fruits. I had put in sprinklers last fall, and they work really well. We are waiting for the irrigation to be turned on, so we can start watering.
